Derek Jeter Rookie Card Overview

Derek Jeter rookie cards are already a great investment. Now that he will solidify his place in history with 3,000 hits, and thus basically guarantees himself a spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame, his rookie cards are hotter than ever. The following is an overview of Jeter's best rookie cards, and what you might expect to pay for them.

1993 SP #279

This is considered to be the best of all Derek Jeter rookie cards, and the $120 value reflects this. This card is hard to find in good condition due to the fact that it has an all foil front. If you can find 1993 SP packs, you may be lucky enough to pull one. However, that is a risk since there is no way to know what the condition will be. If you want this card is guaranteed good condition, consider one of the thousands that have been graded by BGS or PSA.

1993 Stadium Club Murphy #117

This Stadium Club release is one of Jeter's rarest rookie cards. Despite the fact that 128,000 of these sets were released, finding one of these is not easy, and likely why it carries a $100 price tag. Graded versions of this card are available, but they do not come up for sale often. If you wish to add this rookie card to your collection, your best bet is to watch for it to come up for auction on eBay.

1993 Topps #98

Boxes and packs of this product are still available, and not expensive. If you wish to pull a Derek Jeter rookie on your own, 1993 Topps is likely your best bet. There are also variations of this card, such as the Topps Mini, and the Marlins and Rockies Inaugural editions. Expect to shell out around $20 for the basic Topps RC, and possibly more for the variations.

1993 Pinnacle #457

This is probably the Jeter rookie with the most room for growth, as it is hard to find in good condition. The glossy front, and black border, make this card susceptible to damage. Centering is also an issue. If you can find one, $25 is the price you might expect to pay.

1993 Upper Deck #449

These are relatively easy to find, and packs and boxes of 1993 Upper Deck are still available. The glossy front is starting to cause an issue for those looking for this card in packs and boxes due to the fact that over time, the gloss may break down somewhat and cause the cards to stick together. If you find one in a pack, there is a chance it will be damaged. If you are concerned about this, (and you should be) purchase one outright for around $15.

1993 Bowman #511

Bowman is famous for one thing: rookie cards. Not everyone likes this Derek Jeter rookie because the 1993 Bowman release was produced having less than stellar quality. However, the fact remains that this is a Bowman rookie, and the name alone carries value. Expect to spend around $30 for this card.

1993 Score #489

A busy design, extremely odd pose, and strange shades of baby blue colors, make this one of the less desirable Derek Jeter rookie cards. That said, this card is still valued at $20. These are pretty easy to find, and if you can find packs and boxes of this product, you may be able to pull one that is in mint condition.

1993 Select #360

This is the cheapest Derek Jeter rookie card available, with a value of $12. This might be because Select has always been considered a cheap product, or might be because Jeter appears to be up in the sky, which is strange. It seems that this might be the least favorite choice of collector's, but if you want to own a Jeter RC, this is your cheapest option.

All of the listed values here are subject to change. Many predict that these cards will continue to rise in value. They certainly should not decline, especially since Jeter will be the next Mr. 3,000. No one knows how much longer Derek Jeter will continue to play the game of baseball, but there is no reason to wait for his retirement before you start to build your Jeter RC collection.
